Deborah Dickson, Producer
Three-time Academy Award nominee, Deborah Dickson, has served as a story consultant and mentor throughout the making of the film. Her many award winning films include: THE EDUCATION OF GORE VIDAL; RUTHIE AND CONNIE: EVERY ROOM IN THE HOUSE; FRANCES STELOFF: MEMOIRS OF A BOOKSELLER; and LALEE’S KIN (the eighth film in collaboration with Susan Froemke and Maysles Films). Deborah recently directed and produced WITNESSES TO A SECRET WAR and ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE. Currently she is producing and directing a personal documentary film about romantic love.
Mary Manhardt, Editor
Mary Manhardt is a documentary film editor based in New York, specializing in verite films. Her work has aired on HBO, PBS, ABC and MTV, and been honored in film festivals worldwide, including: Sundance, IDFA, Tribeca, Hot Docs and SXSW. She has worked with wonderful directors on such films as: THE FARM, GIRLHOOD, THE EXECUTION OF WANDA JEAN, AMERICAN TEEN, MYSTIC BALL, A SON’S SACRIFICE, RACING DREAMS, BRONX PRINCESS, CAMP VICTORY, and AFGHANISTAN. Mary most recently worked on LOVE, ETC., directed by Jill Andrecevic and produced by Chiemi Karasawa.
Paola Gutiérrez-Ortiz, Editor
Paola is an independent documentary filmmaker, born in Colombia and based in New York City. She has worked in the production and postproduction of several feature documentaries, for theatrical release and television, including: The HBO Series on ADDICTION, HOME FRONT, YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS, ROMÁNTICO, SHOW BUSINESS: THE ROAD TO BROADWAY, DANCE CUBA, and LA TROPICAL. Paola has a Master’s Degree from the Media Studies program at The New School.
David Fenster, Cinematographer
David shot, directed and wrote the dramatic feature, TRONA, along with several short documentaries including the award-winning WOOD. He recently shot two works-in-progress: THE LAST BUFFALO HUNT and LADY TROJANS. David has an MFA in film and video from California Institute of the Arts. His work has screened at the Viennale, MOMA, Sundance, CineVegas and the LA Film Festival. David was born and raised in Miami.
Juan Carlos Zaldívar, Cinematographer
A filmmaker, artist and programmer Zaldívar completed both his BFA and a Masters Fine Arts at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he has also taught as an adjunct faculty. He presently teaches at the Art Institute, Miami International University. His work has been screened on PBS, ABC, IFC, Showtime, WE, and he has served as a Juror for the Sundance Film Festival, the Miami International Film Festival, and the Austin Film Society. He is a Sundance Film Institute Fellow.
Abel Klainbaum, Cinematographer
Abel has shot and directed shows for Animal Planet, and served as cinematographer for various cable networks, including A&E. His experimental film, THE HISTORY OF CHOKING, was featured in both the New York and Chicago Underground Festivals. When not filming or directing documentaries, Klainbaum can be found taking photographs around Miami or playing Americana & Klezmer music with friends in Athens, Georgia.
Beckett Horowitz, Community Campaign Manager
Beckett recently joined the team and is working closely with Ali to launch our audience engagement campaign. Her previous work includes engagement campaigns for: GARBAGE DREAMS, BLUE VINYL, PRAYING WITH LIOR, and THE LINE. Beckett also enjoys working on projects with environmental themes, including: BIG IDEAS FOR A SMALL PLANET on the Sundance Channel, and WA$TED! on Discovery’s Planet Green.
Steven Schoenberg, Composer
Steven is an award-winning composer/pianist whose talents cross into musical theater, classical compositions, film scoring, children’s music, and solo improvisational piano performances. His documentary scores include: A CLASS APART, AN ACT OF CONSCIENCE, and FARMINGVILLE. He has composed songs for SESAME STREET, and composed music for the award-winning book and CD: MY BODYWORKS, written by his wife, Jane Schoenberg.
The Spam Allstars
Additional song provided by THE SPAM ALLSTARS, a Miami-based, Latin-Grammy nominated band, who blend improvisational electronic elements and turntables with Latin, funk, hip hop and dub to create what they call an “electronic descarga”. Gallo Pinto from their Electrodomesticos album is featured in the end credits of MONICA & DAVID, and happen to be one of David, Monica and Ali’s favorite bands!
